My Favorite Maca
I have tried many macas over the years and this is by far my favorite. I believe the addition of black pepper extract gives this an edge and I love that it is gelatinized (cooked) and organic. I have better results when I open the capsule and put it into my coffee or tea.Keep reading if you'd like a more in depth review and my personal experiences with maca in general.I have never been able to stick with maca until recently. I would always stop because of side effects. I have since learned that maca should not be eaten raw. Not only does it cause stomach upset and pain, but the nutrients and compounds need to be cooked for us to be able to absorb them properly. Think potatoes. You can bake or boil or pan cook raw maca yourself if you're looking to save yourself money or if you have a bunch laying around like I used to. Just cook it until it changes color and smells like roasted nuts.I have been studying Eastern Medicine for about 6 months now and maca is a warm and drying substance. Everything is either hot, cold, warm, or cool and drying or moistening. An easy way to look at substances is where and when it grows. Foods that grow in cold conditions and/or in the colder months, like maca, have heating properties to them. Foods that require dampness to grow (roots in the damp ground) are drying. I have found that most of my side effects were coming from the fact that it is warm in nature and I need hot for my imbalances. This is another reason I open the capsule and add it to something hot (the other reason being that I do better when I slowly take in herbs/superfoods/supplements). This doesn't mean that I shouldn't take it since I am an imbalanced yin overly damp type, it just means that I need to take it properly. When side effects get the best of me, I add in hot herbs like ginger, cinnamon, and chai spices. An easy way to do this is to make chai spice infused water. Being an adaptogen, it will bring things into balance, but it takes time. I always give natural substances 60 - 90 days. If you're wondering curiously whether you are an imbalanced yin or yang or dry or damp, here's a bit of a cheat sheet: yin type = feeling cold, fatigued, hypothyroid, lower body is more pronounced (bubble butt, strong thighs, sprinter type, pear shape, hour glass shape); yang type = feeling hot (not hot flashes or night sweats), energized, hyperthyroid, upper body is more pronounced (broader shoulders, small butt, thin thighs (body looks like a upside down triangle and face normally does too). Dampness = weight gain, puffiness, water retention, excessive saliva, yeast and fungus problems, wet stool. Dryness = weight loss, shallowness, dry eyes or mouth or cough, dry stool, fevers. You can be damp in some areas and dry in others. My digestion and skin on my legs is dry, for example, and I need some dampening for them (increased healthy oils and fats and fatty fibers like chia.)My PMS, breast tenderness, night sweats, low libido, and weight gain have been greatly diminished since I have consistently taken maca. I have lost several inches all over and I am toning up nicely. I have begun to slowly lose weight too and it's only in the right places (I'm retaining my breast size, which is usually the first to go). Yay! I am not exercising anymore than I normally do (light walking and a few body weight exercises). I eat healthy *most* of the time.

Twice a day seems to help my libido
I'm a 67-year-old male. Mother nature crept into the bedroom in my late fifties, and my libido started to suffer. I've read several scientific studies that say maca root is good for one's libido, so I decided to give it a try. I've been using this particular brand for several months. I started taking one capsule per day, and it seemed to improve my libido a little bit. But several weeks ago, I decided to take one capsule 2x per day, and it has made a significant difference--not just to my libido, but my overall mood. I would give it five stars if it were a little easier to swallow and tasted a little better.

Alternatives; Energy; Efficacy; Onions; Quality
There are alternative gelatinized powders, not encapsulated, that deliver you much more maca for a lower price.1 lb (453 g) vs 126 grams. This bottle is only 126 grams: 2.1 × 60 servings = 126 grams.2.1 g daily seems like nothing. Taking it twice (4.2 g) cuts the 60 servings down to one month (30.) An alternative gives you 5 grams daily, and it is still *90* servings, 3 months at 5 grams.I bought a pound from Anthony's brand also on Amazon. I really want to give this root a fair try, and with such little quantity of maca I can't. This bottle is not good for someone like me. Even so, its presentation is good. The capsules smell good and delicious. I did find ~4 broken capsules, but it's still good quality.I noticed the capsules are a mixture of various maca.I have been taking 12 capsules, 8,400 g daily, and there is no acute psychological effect, neither was there a slight hint of difference over many days with the generic doses. Activated Vitamin B complex actually delivers results, even acutely. It is not immense, yet it's notable with vitamin B. In seeking a synergistic effect with moderate caffeine, vitamin B complex, and daily cardio, I've given DHEA a fair try only to end up with a pimple here and there. Haha! No help with energy even after various bottles. After giving maca a lengthy try, I will soon find out whether or not this actually takes time to work... For me. Even DHEA can be genuinely useful, though I didn't benefit. They say onions treat coughs after some time, though even if you take nothing, time itself will help you heal. It's your body doing its own work, and it turns out that putting onion peels underneath your feet, in your socks, is very useless. People don't care to filter any noise out from their alleged 'effective' observances. They go out, tell others funny things, and soon enough everyone is buying Socks with Onion Peels Inside for cough relief, a product of Amazon Just Basics. If people demand, someone will offer the supply. This is just a joke, but it's true. Those who are actually needy of genuine help don't succumb to placebo effect. Believing that your broken bone is no longer broken won't heal it. You'll only end up worse under negligence to treat it *truthfully* and effectively. This is matter. Not a single thought of yours will change faulty chemistry/matter in your body when something is truly needy of treatment. To address matter is the primary and only effective focus in treatment. Then your thinking becomes positive, without effort, and this also aids you in finding further avenues to stabilize you even more. Without the initial spark (matter), there is no effective therapeutic treatment, only selfdeceiving 'expert' care.Only one method is truly focused on delivering rapid/effective relief, and that would be the work of a genuinely competent Healer who addresses the matter, and the rest (energy/spirit) naturally follows :)A cheerful and healthy spirit is like medicine to the bones. A broken spirit dries up the bones. Using precise matter-based efforts that (in)directly address the spirit naturally amplify the effectiveness of any other treatment. It takes genuine understanding to hit 🎯 targets by the roots. Reciting information blindly is what most of our 'experts' do. These are like certified mechanics that never did work on their own cars, never did troubleshoot, and never did solve even *basic* issues that commonly occur to Cars/People. Yet society finds no wrong in releasing these out to 'help' people. Not all are like this, but it's very, very common and saddening.Such people should be paid in onions! 'Just think happy and rich thoughts! Remember, it's a very effective approach to reality.'
