Good Binoculars
I used these for about 5 hours yesterday to spot arrows in targets at about 25 yards and they worked great. I especially like the ability to zoom to 16x. This made spotting the arrows very easy and I was even able to tell when an arrow was touching the line between scoring rings. I don't claim to be an expert, but for the price, these binoculars appear to be very good quality. The zoom feature works well, but you do have to adjust the focus when zooming in or out. I think that's to be expected with a manually focused piece of equipment like this and refocusing is very quick and easy. They're relatively lightweight and compact in size compared to some of the larger 50mm lense binoculars of the Porro Prism design. Overall, I'm pleased with these binoculars and recommend them to anyone looking for a reasonable quality pair of binoculars at a reasonable price.

Quality Craftsmanship
I had an old pair of binoculars and so I have a benchmark to compare this set and the quality craftsmanship is visible immediately and more advanced than my old set. These binoculars have a solid look and feel and the images come in clear and crisp. I was a little reluctant to fork over a hundred dollars for these, but it is a very good investment. I absolutely love this well-made instrument and they are worth every penny. There is one minor issue that Olympus should address on their otherwise fine instrument and that is the anchor points used to attach a carrying strap. The outside of the anchor points are fine, but the slot is left unfinished and rough. It was difficult to insert the nylon strap and I needed a magnifying glass and small screwdrivers to insert. A minor point, but could easily be addressed in the quality control process to smooth out and avoid 45 minutes to finally attach the nylon strap.

Great Binoculars with the price
After reading many reviews, I decided on this binoculars for its price and zoom range. I purchased it new for $60 plus tax in May 2009. We went on an Alaska cruise and continued on with a RV to Denali NP. I used it almost every day extensively and I would definitely say that I am very happy with my decision. It is probably not the best binoculars but for the price and what I need for my trip, I am very happy with it.It has great and clear optics. I love the ability to zoom in and out. It allows me to see thing with a wide view and zoom it if I see things of interest. It was great to spot eagles (In Glacier Bay NP,I was able to spot an eagle on an iceberg so far away) and big manmals in Denali. The 8x-16x is just right. At 16x, I have to be very steady. I can not see how I can get my hands to be steadier for more powerful zoom.I would definite recommend everyone to get a zoom binos over a fixed one, it is so much more interactive and fun!!The 40mm lens is also great. There is very little lost of light as you zoom in on a object or scen. Yes, it is just a heavier than the small compact one.I also bought a harness for it and I would recommend that you do if you are going to carry it extensively. It takes the weight off your neck and frees your hand to do other things. The harness allows me to switch back and forth between the camera and the binos. Two things that could be better:1-there is a minute distortion at the very edge of the view if you look very carefully.2-It looses focus a bit when you zoom all the way in or out. You have to refocus.Over all, it is a great binos with its price!

Excellent optics
I wanted an affordable pair or Binoculars with zoom for a trip to the mountains in Colorado (which was cancelled, by the way!) and finally decided on the Olympus Trooper 8-16x40. I've been an Olympus fan for a long time, so the excellent optics were no surprise! The focusing and zoom are smooth and simpe. For general purposes, including amature bird-watching this is a very nice pair: bright, enough magnification/zoom within a comfortable size and weight. Excellent piece of work from Olympus.

Amazing !!!
This binoculars are amazing, I have used them in more than couple lunar eclipses and the view of the moon is nice, crisp, the color and focus is very good. Very good built quality. I was able to out it on tripot with a fixture and that improves the experience

Not so good
After using these at the range, I feel like I’ve been short changed in the magnification.I don’t have time to prove it, but my 12power Vortex scope seems to be closer on the magnification than these “16power” binos. They feel like a 10power at the max… maybe I received a bad pair…I don’t like them

Good, but get the 8x40
Save your money and Get the non-zoom 8x40 version. At 16x40 these binocs are hard to hold steady. The zoom feature is okay, but for simple enjoyment not necessary. For the money the optics are good, but at the edges there is chromatic aberration. These binocs feel sturdy in the hands, and the focus ring is nice and wide so the index fingers on both hands can operate with precision. As previously noted, these are full sized, so if your eyes are notably placed close together, you may not be able to adjust them for a single image. These are too big for a child!!Now that I’ve given all the negatives, I’ll say they are a pleasure to use. I spend a good amount of time glassing our wildlife refuge and see ALOT more wildlife than without them. So the 8x40 is the way to go IMHO.
