Great value, thin slices
Simple, no frills, and works great! The thickness can be dialed in precisely. My only criticism is that the thickness dial turns very freely, making it easy to accidentally change. Also, the thickest setting gives you slices that are only slightly thicker than an average pickle chip. The picture is of this set at its thickest. However, it enables you to make slices that are literally paper thin. Perfect for how I will be using it.

Glad it comes with glove and a guard.
Works great! I was scared to buy another one! This time J made sure it had a glove and a guard to guide the food through. I cut the tip of my thumb off and ended up in the ER with a different one. So I am so glad this one came with protection.

Not bad for the price, but destroys tomatoes
OK, but it won't slice tomatoes well at all.

Very sharp but comes with appropriate protection!
Very easy to use and almost too easy with the sharpness. It is very sharp so make sure you use the included cut resistant glove/food holder. All available settings are quite thin so keep that in mind too. 5mm is not that thick! Keep that in mind if you use the freedom scale normally.

Effortless slicing
Pros: I first sliced a potato that had been in the fridge overnight. The first slice was so smooth that I didn't think it was cutting. But it was. A couple of adjustments to the thickness knob and I was getting paper thin slices of potato for making chips. I thought it had three distinct height settings, but it can be adjusted through the range. It was easy to clean, too. The protective glove was a nice touch. I have large hands and it was a bit snug, but not uncomfortably tight.Cons: The surface the food sits on is a little flexible, so don't push down on it too hard. The blade is so sharp that little force is needed. The safety slider will only move food until it is a little under 1/4 inch thick, then it passes over it. I guess that's to keep the safety slider from hitting the blade. That's where the glove came in handy, I was able to manually push the last bit of potato to the blade and get one more slice. All in all this is a great product, especially for ten bucks. I highly recommend it for people like me, who only occasionally need to slice food so thin. 5 stars.

Hard To Clean
I like the price and the slicing performance.Unfortunately, there are recessed parts of this that are hard to wash. In particular, the areas around the thickness dial axle and the inside of the food guard seem to be inaccessible. It is possible to rinse them out.The food guard (food holder) doesn't really connect to the mandoline body. This makes it a little awkward to use, and more importantly, makes it easy to swipe food over the thickness dial (which is hard to clean). The slices range from thin (maybe 3/16") to paper thin. This is fine with me because I needed something to make thin slices. I can use a knife to make thicker slices, but it is a feature that bothers other reviewers.I've never injured myself with this, but you must concentrate while using it to avoid slicing your fingers.

Learning curve
This is exactly what I was looking for and it works wonderfully. No injuries in a household full of accident prone people. I will say the settings take time to dial in (as it’s a bit stiff at first) but also there is something to be said for knowing how to apply steady pressure on the cooks end.
