Solved a 60hz hum problem with a Zoom H4N recorder
I don't know if there are any transformer(s) or other electronics in this adapter, or whether it's "just" a cable to cable pin out changing a TS instrument cable to an XLR balanced cable - but I had a real problem lately while going direct into a Zoom H4N from an acoustic guitar's passive pickup (happened to be a McIntyre Feather, but that appears irrelevant). When the Zoom was battery powered - no problem. When using the Zoom (not a knock-off) power adaptor (5v), a 60hz hum was loud and clear. The adaptor and cable checked out - so it was some kind of electrical field or other EMI interference that was created when the Zoom was plugged in with the adaptor.Running the chain through an amp would eliminate the hum, but using a DI did not. Finally tried using this adaptor in the chain - so guitar jack 1/4" TS cable to this adaptor, then the XLR male into the Zoom recorder, and voila no more hum. If just wire connections then some grounding-type function occurs when using this adaptor.I've now put it in the Zoom recorder case and will have it whenever using the recorder with the adaptor. 60hz hum can be a bear to chase down, and I'm quite happy this defeated it! Quality built product.

Great solution for converting 1/4 - inch jack to xlr
Get multiple uses out of instrument or speaker cables with 1/4 - inch jacks on both ends. Easily converts the cord to a female XLR end. Heavy duty and very well made by a dependable well-known brand for music instrument supplies - D'Addario.

Work Well, but need to play around with it to get it right
So I'm still learning a lot of the ropes since I am fairly new to music still. I'm going to try my best to give a useful review with things I would've liked to know when deciding whether to purchase this. These are pretty big and sturdy which I do like, though the downside is that sometimes they can't fit in every mic port because they bump into each other. I bought these to go with my Macbook Pro and BEHRINGER MICROAMP HA400.Some people are saying that these don't offer stereo when connected to headphones, or that the headphones produce muffled sound. First things first, if you plug your headphones in all the way I have found that sound will come out of only one speaker, but if you pull your cord out slightly it works great! (Which is kinda lame that it doesn't work when plugged in fully.) So I have to keep my headphones slightly out of the ports, which is just a minor inconvenience at the moment.Secondly, different headphones WILL produce different sound, so don't become frustrated or mad if one pair of headphones sounds too soft, or the bass isn't coming in as well, etc. I've tried out 3 different headphones with different results, so just mess around with some for a bit. These are the first ones I've ever purchased so I will post updates if anything goes wrong. But for now things work fine, just have to make sure the cords are pulled out a little on the headphones to get stereo sound. In the picture you can see what I mean by having to keep the headphones pulled out a little, plus the size not allowing me to fit one in the second port. Anyways I hope this helps!

Handy little tool
Why buy new cables when this works just fine.

Love D'Addario products
Bought this and an XLR to 1/4" adapter. Both are excellent and I love the black, too. Buy this.

Has a deep yellow 24k Gold Finish
I placed my 14K gold ring next to this, as 24 K has a deeper yellow tone and the color was a much more dense yellow than my ring. It looks and feels more durable as well as elegant compared to the ones those European guys with long nose import from china in the stores in my area. So it was worth ordering than buying rather than the cheap ones in my local stores. The black part where it says " planet waves" is not plastic but rubber and you can squeeze it as it feels soft and cushiony on fingers. I use it on the headphone output of my Focusrite 2i2 interface(in conjunction with a Startech 3.5mm stereo splitter) so that 2 people can listen to a recording using headphones. I hope it will last me 3 decades or more as I rather spend money on expensive items rather than buying cheap items and they break and then keep spending more money on cheap.

Works
Used on a couple dozen gigs now, both indoor and outdoor. It does what it's supposed to do, lightweight, good price at less than ten bucks. I use it to connect a clip-on instrument mic that has an XLR out to my LR Baggs Venue DI, which only takes 1/4" input.
