Repetition is the Mother of knowledge! The CDs are thorough in their repetition of new words and their intonations. Excellent!
The CDs are thorough in the repetition of new words and their intonations that are critically important for understanding the Tonal Mandarin Chinese language. The added benefit is that a student can replay a CD to listen to the new words and/or phrases again and again until he or she gets it right. I'd also like to add to those who are interested in learning about the basic Tones in Mandarin Chinese is to search on YouTube for a presentation in which there is a Lesson that explains the Tones used, in detail; You'd need to search for beginner Chinese Language lessons, one of which is a lesson on the Tones used in Mandarin. This should help you a great deal!

Pimsleur is easy to use
I am learning Mandarin. The tones are very tricky for me and I have only a fair ear for them. These tapes are simple, basic, and each lesson grows on the previous one. when I speak Mandarin to native Chinese speakers they tell me that I do have a foreigner's accent, and I am easy to understand. I am pleased with this learning system.

Great for an absolute beginner.
It's not bad, but I expected it to be a little more progressive. I bought it to use as a refresher course for conversational Mandarin that I had learned while working abroad years ago. I think that it is really for pure beginners.

Introduction to Chinese
Great CD for the car. There are eight lessons, two lessons on each CD. I got this CD to help me with some phrases for travel but it's not really made just for travel so some of the phrases are not useful like "Do you speak Chinese?" Why would I ask someone that question if I need someone to help me by speaking English? However, I can use the vocabulary that is used. And it is a good introduction to the language and some basic phrases. I like how the language is taught. Lots of repetition. The sentences are broken down to smaller phrases. If I eventually want to learn more of the language I would consider buying the Pimsleur method. The speakers are clear and not too fast.

The best and cheapest way to learn Chinese Mandarin
The CDs are well prepared, practical and logical in sequence and are easy to listen to; they give the impression of a patient language teacher that not only teaches you Mandarin, but ensures that your pronounciation is accurate. Even current non-native Mandarin speakers can use the lessons on the CDs to brush up on pronounciation and style. This has to be one of the very best, if not the best way to learn Mandarin at home.

Never a waste of money
Pimsleur is the best. Have used it for Spanish as well. Friends say the same. Whatever you learn is in your memory forever.
