what a story!
Yes, it's an abridged paraphrase of the original, but a great story and here retold for younger age or reading levels. I've been reading several from the series of Classic Starts to my 4 and 5 year olds. Together we've read hundreds of books and the Classic Start series has brought some great stories within accessibility to us. We read Call of the Wild, the Jungle Book, and Tom Sawyer, and we're reading Moby Dick and Treasure Island from the series. This story is just a hit for adventuresome boys. There's some allegory and metaphore for the more sophisticated audience, but it doesn't depend as heavily on it as other great stories because it starts right off with a grizzly murder, and goes on to a haunted house, buried treasure, a deep labyrinthine cave, a vengeful villain, and some real respectable type heroes.

Good adaptation of the classic, good version to read for ages 7-11.
This adaptation of Tom Sawyer is better than one I purchased from Barnes and Noble, which was more like a series of short stories, and did not seem to convey the original charm. In this adaptation, the story still flows well, and is true to the original. I am reading it to my son's fourth grade class, and they are really enjoying it. The escapades are retold in a shorter, simplified prose, without the vernacular dialogue that would make it hard for fourth graders to follow.

An excellent tool to get 7 yr old boys to read ( Bribery helps)
Excellent tool for 2nd grade readers. Reading and comprehension improves chapter by chapter.I shype with my grandson and we read a chapter daily on his return from school. He reads a page and I read the next page as he follows along. I quiz him (2 or 3 questions/discussion. . . .) with a one dollar prize for each correct answer. Does the trick.

Every child should read "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer."
I bought this classic story for my grandsons. It's a great read for kids. I know they'll enjoy it.. The book was purchased used and is in excellent condition. I would buy from this bookstore again.

Good introduction to an American classic literature for a beginer.
This book is an adaptation, but for 7 year old it was great introduction to an American classic literature, we mixed the reading: a few pages were read by me or my wife, and a few by the kid himself, was a lot of fun.

A GREAT READ FOR ALL AGES
As I said, my granddaughter and I had read the copy from our local library and I wanted her to have this one in her own library for many years to come.

The Adventures of Tom Sawyer
This book is for a child 8 to 9 years old. This book is alright for children this age but it doesn't contain the whole unabridged version.
