Good product

A nice lanyard with some basic necessities. The compass is accurate enough to keep you heading in the cardinal direction you choose. It has redundant small ferro rods and includes a striker. Since they are on the small side they were a little trickier to use than my normal fire-starters, but they work and could save your life. It has a built in LED light to help you find stuff in your pack at night. Not sure how much paracord is on it but looks to be enough to build the frame to an emergency shelter. Overall, for the money, I'm happy with it.

Ok, so I have had this keychain/lanyard and it is pretty heavy duty. I like it, I like having some EDC safety stuff on me at all times. The only two things I am not fully liking is that the compass doesn't work. It just doesn't point North or True North. I made sure there are no magnets near or on me just in case, still nothing. All so the little light is AWESOME and powerful for the size, but I have to leave the plastic in because the button is ALWAYS turning it on. I wish it was a on/off switch instead. Third LITTLE issue, is the part were it slides off, it kinda does that to much without realizing it. I am going to SUPER GLUE it if I end up almost losing it. I don't want to do that now because I don't want to void any warranty I have with it right now. Other then that, AWESOME!

This is a great little item to clip on your pack. The light is good for finding an item in your pack. The compass is accurate and the fire steel shoots an impressive spark (and it has two) Always good to have an extra paracord and you can attach it to your belt so you can have a backup if you get separated from your pack.No wonder this little gizmo is constantly sold out.A good item to give to everyone in your group and also safe for kids.

I agree with earlier reviews: The retention of the key ring is poor, as is the position of the light switch. The paracord end melting could also have been better. I can take care of that myself, but I have zero confidence that the key ring won't come loose at an inopportune time. Fix those issues and you have a winner.Addendum - I purchased a Spigen Life Carabiner to use for my keys and kept the Holtzman clipped to a D-ring on my EDC bag, as a backup. While walking into a store I heard something hit the ground at it was the keyring of the Holtzman. I was doing normal activities and hadn't consciously touched it. I'm glad it happened in a retrievable environment and that my keys weren't on it. Stronger mechanical retention would be a game-changer for this product.

This is my favorite keychain! I never loose my keys with this. It's the 2nd one I've purchased from holtzmans and definitely won't be the last these make great gifts (that's why this is my second, I gave my 1st to a friend that was looking at it and he fell in love with it! ) I have 7 different knives from holtzmans also and I love every single one of them! So far everything I've purchased from holtzmans gorilla survival has been top notch! Wether its Keychains, knives, bracelets, ferro rods, or necklace I have been overjoyed with the quality!

First off, I received a gift card from the seller for buying the item, so it only ended up being $2 or so. (I was not required to write a review in exchange for the gift card, but I am writing one anyways.)My background is in search and rescue, and I only purchased this tool because I needed a new whistle. Everything seems to work well on the keychain, however the smaller ferrorod and the striker are difficult to get out. I couldn't imagine trying to dig them out if my hands were cold and numb. Once they're out, however, they can be turned around and put back into their holes so you can get a better grip.Both ferrorods are capable of producing a nice shower of sparks despite being hard to get a hold of. The flashlight is not much to write home about, but is just fine for digging around inside your pack. Compass works fine, but is not sufficient for precision map work. Really only good if you know there's a road a few miles south of you that runs east to west, so if you travel generally south, you'll get to the road.The paracord does contain a piece of jute twine for starting fire and a piece of actual fishing line, however the entire piece is only about 4' long and will take you 5 minutes or so to unbraid. It can be cut with the ferro striker, though it takes some time.Ultimately, for a $2 whistle, it's a good product, but it doesn't replace your knife, compass, flashlight and full size ferrorod or the cordage I regularly carry, and I would not have paid full price for it.

A must buyreally love this survival key chain...I carry it with me constantly because you never know you need it .The compass on this thing, although small, is a real orienteering compass...It clips on to my belt or keychain...It has two ferro rods for starting fires...The Whistle is Loud and Durable...The Paracord is versatile - it can be used for fishing line, starting fires, or like regular rope...The LED Light works great & the battery can be replaced...I am going to buy a couple more for Christmas gifts!! Cool gadgets
