NAS drive for security camera system...Extremely satisfied with this purchase
I purchased this product as the replacement NAS drive for my security camera system. Initially, I was a little hesitant about getting a generic brand and I wasn't sure about its quality. Yet at approx. $40, what's there to lose. So I gave it a try. I'm glad I did. It turned out to be the best purchase I've ever made. Here are the things I really like about this hard drive:1) Clear Instructions: It comes with a small 1-page instruction card. (The words are sorta in "fine" print...very small). In my opinion, everything is clearly written. I didn't have any confusions. Mind you that I am not a techie AT ALL. But I can follow instructions well.2) Easy Installation: Since I got this as a replacement for my existing NAS hard drive, I didn't have any problem figuring out where and how to place this hard drive on my system. I basically reversed the steps I took for deinstalling my original hard drive and making sure all the cables/wires were connected correctly and securely. And that's it on the hardware part.On the software side, the instruction mentioned that one needed to format the drive for the initial install. In my case, I didn't really have to because my system had already detected the new drive and all my cameras were already functioning. Either way, I still clicked on "format" drive on my system and after a short time, everything was working again just as before.3) Large Storage Space & high-speed RPM: I really like this drive offers 3TB storage space and is at 7200 RPM speed. This really helps my video feed run more smoothly. My previous drive that came with the security system only had 2TB and was at 5400 RPM.4) Hardly any noise: Compared to my previous NAS drive, this is a super quiet drive. I can hardly hear any noise, only occasionally. My previous drive was constantly buzzing, which was a nuisance.5) Solid Quality & Compatibility: I've been using this drive for over a month, everything works fine. There are no issues whatsoever. It is compatible with my security camera system.6) Great Price & Made in Thailand: After doing some research, I realized that most of the name brand hard drives are produced in Thailand. This generic brand is also produced in Thailand. This gives me a little confidence about the product source. And it only costs 1/3 or 1/2 of the price of a name brand hard drive for the same amount of storage space & speed. As you can read, I only have great things to say about this product. For a non-techie, I'm really happy this hard drive worked out for me and I wasn't stressed out during the installation process. Easy-peasy :)

BEST DEAL ON AMAZON: ENTERPRISE GRADE SEAGATE CONSTELLATION ES.2 P/N: ST33000650NS 3TB Rated @ 89% (should actually be 100%.
I Received an ENTERPRISE GRADE SEAGATE CONSTELLATION ES.2 P/N: ST33000650NS 3TB Rated @ 89% (should actually be 100%... If you Read the reviews) Paid $73.99 on 09/19/2016. In order to format this and every other over 2TB to be usable as one Partition in Windows 7 (steps should be similar in Windows 8 & 10):1. Right-Click On the Computer ICON > MANAGE;2. On the Computer Management Windows click on STORAGE > DISK MANAGEMENT (local)3. Upon Discovery, Windows will give you a ”INITIALIZE WINDOW” Dialogue Box with a Check Mark for your NEW 3TB HDD4. On the Initialize Window Select the Radio Button to GPT (GUID Partition Table) then OK5. On the Right Box BLACK LINED DISK #, Right-Click and Select CONVERT to DYNAMIC Disk a Dialog Box with the Correct Disk will appear Click on OK6. Left square box will now read Dynamic 2794.39 GB ONLINE7. On the long BLACK LINED window, Right Click on NEW SIMPLE VOLUME and NEXT on Dialogue Box, on VOLUME SIZE (2861459) Click NEXT8. Assign your Preferred DRIVE LETTER (E in my case) then NEXT, PAY ATTENTION AS THE NEXT STEP IS MOST CRITICAL:9. On FORMAT PARTITION Dialog Box RADIO BUTTON, to Read “NTFS” (for ALL Windows OS) on Size select DEFAULT10. On VOLUME LABEL I type “T3.0_1 (E)” (no Quote Marks) AND UNCHECK (Deselect) “PERFORM A QUICK FORMAT”. WHY? You want your PRISTINE VIRGIN DISK to last for many many years ERROR-FREE, I believe (OLD SCHOOL and yes Old Wives’ tales) that Quick Format in the long run may affect the life of the disk11. A Dialog box given you last minute change will appear that gives you an opportunity to make changes, review and click NEXT12. The Black Line will change to Light OD Green. On the Windows OS COMPUTER Management Top Box,13. A new VOLUME ICON with no label will appear and it will read SIMPLE DYNAMIC File System (none Yet) STATUS will read FORMATING: (1%) to (99%).14. Wait for about 8 to 9 Hours for the SNAIL HIGH-QUALITY Formation to Take Place.15. When Completed (~08:00 HRS) later, it will read T3.0_1 (E) (E); SIMPLE; DYNAMIC; NTFS; HEALTHY; 2794.39 GB; 2794.22 GB; 100%; NO; 0%16. That completes my 3TB new HDD Windows Tutorial. I hope this helps those that are ON THE FENCE about how to use 3TB or larger HDD with their Windows PCs. AGAIN MANY people will argue for days about the QUICK FORMAT, I am OLD School and my experience with over 200 HDD has showing me that QUICK Format is “Quick and Dirty”, but MY DATA requires MY LOVE and MY TIME. When something goes wrong it is VERY Painful transferring Terabytes of DATA; And ONE LAST THING, If you ever hear the Click click click (HDD Failure sound) change the stupid SATA DATA CABLE, SATA-IO Group their design is GARBAGE, I am finding out that 8 out of 10 it is the SATA DATA Cable what went wrong and not the HDD; Years ago I purchased lots of MONOPRICE SATA DATA Cables and as the old-saying “You get what you pay-for”, well it is TRUE; compared to IDE (SATA) is a Joke, yes smaller lighter etc etc but the CONNECTOR needs Re-design it really really SUCKS, you will KNOW THIS, because when you hear the HDD clicking sound a small (gingerly side-to-side move) in the black plastic SATA DATA connector (Female plastic-made) causes the HDD clicking sound to go away, you found the culprit.17. The problem is because the SATA Female connector (on the cable side) is made out of SUPER-CHEAP PLASTIC, THE SATA-IO Group NEEDS TO “REV-UP” to a new revision with METAL that WILL NOT ALLOW (zero) side-to-side movement AMD CLIPS to the Male Connector, (SATA-IO GROUP should learn from CAT-7 Cable/Connector 1000X times better than your SATA, they use ROBUST proven 50-year+ old Ma Bell Technology that uses Metal and CHANNELS ) but then again HDD will never fail after that (don’t we wish). Enjoy.I Received an ENTERPRISE GRADE SEAGATE CONSTELLATION ES.2 P/N: ST33000650NS 3TB with Good Packaging inside a anti-static Ground Bag. Will I buy AGAIN from them? YOU BET! Best deal in Amazon and Fast delivery.

iffy
Ok so I totally bought this because it was cheap and I was experimenting with multiple internal drives (I don't mod my computer often, but when I do...) Not entirely confident in the quality of it's longevity; I planned to use it as an archive and am instead using it as a network server for daily use (and archiving), and it's very loud when I turn it on, so much so that it's a bit concerning. It also tapped out on me once, but I don't really know that I want to send it back now that it has my stuff on it.... memory cards, what can I say? Anyways I'm still playing russian roulettes on it, so it can't be that bad....right?

Seems to be working perfectly
I bought this for a home data storage server and it seems to be working. I have no issues with video playback over my network with this and it seems to be functioning with no issues. I got a pretty good deal for the capacity.

Junk. Noisy. Short life.
Noisy. Makes a lot of noise. Used for security camera recordings. Lasted less than two years before going bad. Now I see why the warranty is only one year. Need to replace. Will not buy this again!
