When you step and raise the top it comes down very slowly and doesn't bang.If you open the lid by hand, it stays open which makes it a lot easier to change the bags. No smashing sound.So no bigger footprint, more content size, less stooping over because it higher and easier to get at. And easier to replace bags and no smashing sound.I am so glad I decided to try these.There is another size up from this one, but it really is too big for a bathroom.I like these. They still have the removable inner bucket. And bucket does not have the acrid odor of the one that comes with the tiny can. That one had to be aired out for hours before use. This one has no odor.AND THE BAGS FIT PROPERLY. The smaller bag would aways stick out over the lid - completely contrary to the advertising claim. This fits perfectly. BUT THE BAGS ARE VERY VERY EXPENSIVE - IT WORKS OUT TO $15.00 for 60 bags which is 15 cents per plastic garbage bag.

I never thought I would spend this kind of money on a garbage can, but glad I did. Great quality right out of the box, stickers were a breeze to remove, no dents or damage in packaging. I bought this one for our powder room, but now considering others for the kitchen and other areas where you need a small garbage can. I love that the lid closes completely.

This is our second Simple Human can. We bought our first Simple Human can 10 years ago when we bought a house with the kitchen by the front door where guests walked into the house. I wanted a can that looked kind of elegant, and had a hidden bag. It was the 30 Liter S.S. Butterfly model with slow close. It's been 10 years and it still works like it was new. My one caution is to watch out when little kids are around. They are fascinated by the slow closing feature, and they want to push down on it as it closes. Explain to them that they will break it. If you allow them push down on it enough, it will probably damage the seals in the air chamber and ruin it over time. Then it will just slam shut like a cheap lidded can. We needed a can with a lid for the bathroom also, to keep the mutts out of the garbage. In the bathroom, I got tired of using an off-brand can with a lid that didn't have dedicated bags, not to mention, having bad fitting bags that were a pain to use, visible, and ugly. This little 10L Simple Human can is beautiful, and is the perfect size for a bathroom. Now, i guess I'm going to have to get one for the other bathroom as well.

I've had this can for some time and am still in awe every time I use it. What can I say, I love things that work really well!Pros:- The D shape design sits along the wall without using up much floor space.- The size (2.6 gallon) is great in the bathroom. The only trash cans with lids in the brick and mortar stores at the time I bought this were either too small at 1 gallon or too large at 5 gallons.- The soft close lid is sweet! The lid opens and closes with virtually no noise.- Lid will stay in the full open position by gently pulling it back to the detent when it is in the open position to make changing bags or emptying the plastic container a simple task.- The brushed stainless steel exterior is easy to keep clean. At least according too my wife.Cons:- Uses a special bag. But really, who's going to spend $40 on a garbage can and complain about that? Simplehuman's recommended bag fits nicely. A person might be able to use a kitchen bag but I think sliding the excess bag between the exterior of the can and the removable container would lead to more frustration than it's worth.- The lid of my can has a slight crease in it that can be seen when viewed in just the right light. It appears to be a manufacturing defect. The packaging was in perfect shape. I should probably dock them a star for this but it doesn't bother me that much.

I like that this is a small 10 liter size trash can that is not round so I can put against the wall without taking that much space. It is fingerprint resistant and it closes slowly. You can keep it open without using your foot if you give the lid a little push out once it’s fully open. And standard/cheap 4 gallon trash bags fit fine.

Solid product, no break downs.

Wasn't sure if this would fit in a small NY narrow kitchen, but it is perfect! Have been using it every day with the plastic bags from grocery stores and I'm sure it would work even better with the custom fitted bags the company makes, but the whole idea for me was to utilize a compact and self sealing unit, so for the near future, it will be plastic grocery bags. I purchased this because my old stainless steel can never gets full, so I was wasting the tall can size bags. I prefer to empty the garbage separate from paper anyway, and take the small garbage out every day or two.This company seems to be attentive to both quality and design. For those who live in a house or larger apartment, it would also be perfect as a bathroom can. One thing to keep in mind is that the step on lid means you need to plan to have this in a place where there is enough room tor the lid to open. The plastic inside liner can is easily removed so changing bags is easy and also easy to clean with a spritz of Lysol spray and a wipe with paper towel. Overall, very happy with it. And it looks terrific too, while still being sturdy.
