Hello James, The two mounting holes at the front as shown in the picture are 50mm. apart and the width of the winch body is 90mm. Hope this helps.

Q: How well will this weather outside? Im looking to use as a washing line hoist.

mine sits on a boat trailer in a marine environment . it will go rusty after a long period but a coat of Rustoleum will do wonders .and just give it few squirts of wd40 to keep it moving once in a while

No, you have to be careful lowering. Keep hold of the handle!!

Q: Is there anywhere to buy a shorter handle for this winch?

You wouldn’t get the correct leverage with a shorter handle.
