If it was a brand new one box and all I would say whatever Intel's is. If its a used one it all depends on how they support it.

It may but I would not risk it. Go with the 988a

The response from John Hui is correct. You need to check on the type of CPU socket in your Gateway NE56R41U. The Intel website has sepcs on each of their CPUs to include the socket types. One other piece of advice, if the Gateway NE56R41U was never available with a faster chip such as the i5-2540M it may have issues with the heat generated by the faster CPU. This may only result in your computer running a little hotter or it could result in serious damage.
