Great for other uses too.
I wanted to add a support for the built-in bookcase on an outside wall. The bookcase was constructed well to meet code, but later it seemed like a good idea to add some support to the outside corners. This floor support post was ideal for my use, and easy to install. These are made of steel and are Zinc plated. It arrived as two parts, the base with square tube and the top with threaded stud welded to the top plate. See picture. I was able to slide the top and then bottom under the siding, and then screw the upper and lower parts together while under the bookcase. Then stand them up vertical, and adjust the screw to (slightly lift) support the structure.Base plate: The square tube can be cut to make a shorter version. I have the 12 inch model, but then cut shorter for my need. The plate has four clearance holes for 1/4 bolt, or a snug fit for a 5/16 bolt. When assembled, the nut sets onto the top of the square tube.Top part: There is a 4 inch long stud welded to the top plate. The nut is captive on the stud, due to the end of the thread is stamped to prevent the nut from turning all the way off of the stud. Nut requires a 1-1/8 wrench to turn. The top plate has eight 1/4-20 threaded holes. 4 are indented for countersunk screw heads, The other 4 holes are flush. The adjustment range of the nut & stud/plate allows the top portion (including plate and nut thickness) to be as short as 3/4 inch, and as long as 3-1/2 inch tall. Add the height of the base to get total height.Disclaimer: Use good judgement on your project.
