Great collars. Ignore sizing guidance
I've been using this collar on our retriever and just got one for the new member of the household. The collar is primarily for tags and FitBark gps (another great product that provides location and activity data). I like the standard buckle/hole style rather than the clip type because it cannot be tightened by another dog pulling on it or catching on something. I also like how thick they are, making the edges soft/rounded. His neck is 19 inches and we're using the 24 inch on the 3rd of 4 holes. I like to keep them a bit loose so he can slip out if it gets caught. I don't use it for walks or training. We use a harness or gentle leader for walks but we have the option to tighten the collar if needed in an emergency. We use a martingale for training (Only...never leave them on!) so he cannot back out of it. Our new baby is now old enough for a collar to wear her tags and fitbark. Her neck is 13-14 inches. The 20 inch collar let's us use the 2nd or 3rd hole with room for growth and again lets her slip out if it gets caught. I know there are recommendations to keep collars tight enough to only slip two fingers through but with a double-coated dog, it causes matting and itching. Retrievers have relatively large heads compared to their necks so fit will vary by breed. Summary: in our case, we are adding 5-7 inches to the measurement to be able to use a middle holes allowing us to tighten or loosen depending on the time of year and coat thickness (before and after they blow their undercoat in the spring). Please please please do not leave a pinch, choke chain, or martingale collar on a dog unless you are actively training on lead. It is so dangerous. I cringe when I see that.

a good collar
I wanted a buckle collar. The slip collars can be dangerous when dogs are playing together. I am pleased with this purchase.

Measurements are from buckle crossbar to end of collar, so too short.
Beautifully strong and we'll made. Too short, need the holes at 22" for our Labradors.Wonderful bright pink color. Will donate to local rescue center. Wish they were available in longer length.

Strong Durable Collar
The 1 inch Double Thick by Hamilton is excellent, strong collar for my bully mix. I always use Hamilton brand.

Great Quality
Best quality dog collar I have ever found. Does not fray, or wear out. I only replaced it because his old one was filthy. Heavy duty, yet not hot like a leather collar.

Quality is high - sizing recommendations are pathetic
Has Hamilton ever measured any of the products they sell and mark? Size is so far off from actual dimensions that the superb quality of the collar is 100% offset by never being able to get the right size. We had a 22" that was several inches too small. We ordered 26" that's just one notch too large. And the 24" is always out of stock in anything but pink. PLEASE, Hamilton, mark and size your products correctly.

top quality collar
I purchased this Hamilton collar after buying another brand when my pup grew out of his original Hamilton collar. The next brand was over-sized compared to the Hamilton (bought one size larger) and I had to make a hole to fit (way too big) -- I'm guess an inch isn't really an inch. :-) It looked silly and sloppy so I purchased this collar and trashed the other brand. What I really like about the Hamilton's is the re-enforced holes and overall good quality and looks. They are super tough and very well made -- looks like they could last for years, or until it's grown out of - whichever comes first. :-) The only con that I would have to say -- and that is only due to its quality build (so don't change it, Hamilton :-) -- is that the 'hasp' for the dog's 'credentials' (licenses, etc.) is so well made that it makes it difficult to put the put the ring on -- not impossible, just takes a bit of work -- but at least it will never wear out; I think the ring or credentials themselves (they are made so thin these days) will wear out before the hasp on the collar does.
