Schwarzkopf Keratin Color Permanent Hair Color, 1.8 Ruby Noir, 1 Application - Professionally Inspired Permanent Hair Dye, for up to 80% Less Breakage vs Untreated Hair and up to 100% Gray Coverage

This is for Ruby Noir 1.8. I had very dark brown, nearly black hair before with lots of grays. I love my results but wish I had bought two boxes. I have fine waist length hair and could have used another bottle to really saturate the lengths. I thought I would be ok because my hair is pretty thin but even if you have thin hair, if your hair is longer than your shoulder blades I would get two boxes.This would be great for women with dark hair who want a change that isn't too crazy, purple hair that isn't too intense. The top portion of my hair got the most color pay off, probably since it got the most saturated and since I did that first, had more time to process than the rest of my hair. Some staining on scalp and around hairline but not too bad, keeping in mind I took no precautions against staining. Made sure to wipe down my shower afterwards, everything wiped off relatively easy and didn't stain my shower.It WILL look like a murder scene during the rinse, as usual with any red dye. It took a long time for the water to turn any kind of clear, when it would go clear I'd back out of the spray, and then when i went under again the water would be red again! I spent a good hour rinsing as much as I could. And when I got out reddish water drops were still rolling down my shoulders from my hair! So it will bleed a lot when it gets wet for the first few showers.The application process was easy and simple, just apply the serum to the ends, then squeeze the color tube into the developer bottle and shake it. In the bottle the dye looks orange, don't be alarmed by that. The gloves that came with the package are very cheap and both ripped while I was taking them off the paper. The stained hands typing this advise you to have your own gloves! I've never used a hair dye with a serum to protect your ends before, so that was a nice thought.I left on for 60 minutes after the initial application. They say to include the application time, but I didn't since in that case the ends of my hair would have been way behind the top of my hair. Didn't use a cover/bag for my hair.The end result is a VERY dark reddish-purple/burgundy for level 2-3 hair like mine. I actually think it made my hair darker! It looks great in good light conditions and the sun. Covered all my grays. I'm hoping it will fade to a little lighter overtime. Everything smelled good and the conditioner made my hair very soft and shiny. Doesn't feel damaged.Being a 1.8 dye, I didn't think it would have hydrogen peroxide/developer but it does, for anyone wishing to avoid that. But it's probably only a 10-15 vol.Next time I think I will buy a 3.0 shade in a similar color for a little more vibrant result. This is a great hair dye that does a great job hiding the gray. I com ine this with a brown, so you see brown in most light but when I'm out on the sun, you can see the purple and I always get a lot of compliments on it. It's not so crazy that you can see it in all lights, but just in the sunlight. I love it and think the quality is great and it's easy to do yourself. I highly recommend it.

Quick background on my hair and I'm sorry that my review is very lengthy! :) My virgin hair is black/brown, 3/4th of my hair was virgin, with the last quarter of hair being a slightly reddish brown color from previous colorings. The length is at my mid back, and with semi thick hair. 1 bottle did the trick, did not need two. There was a fragrant pretreatment serum that you can apply to dry ends before applying the color which was very nice; something I don't see in a lot of other box dyes. The leave in conditioner smelled very nice as well and was very effective. My newly colored hair versus my virgin hair feels very similar. The ends are surpringly soft as well! When you mix the applications together, it first was orange, it alarmed me! But rest assured, the color will set into a dark red. If you want to go for a subtle look (dark red/black without light, then rich vibrant red shining during light/sunshine) then apply for 30 mins. If you want the red to show with light and more of it during light/sunshine, then apply the color for 45 mins. I applied it for 30 because that was the amount of time written on the instruction manual, but I wish I went for 45. It came out very red/black, but it did have such a gorgeous red coming through when my hair was exposed to any light source. Overall, I'm very pleased with the subtle look. But that's why it's unfortunately a 4 star and not a 5. It takes a while for the initial application to wash out of your hair, I washed it out for 15 mins and still had some red water coming out. Please be prepared to get at least one towel/rag/unwanted t-shirt stained. I read that this color keeps washing out of your hair so I was prepared for it, and the other reviews regarding that were correct. My old rag/towel was stained from wrapping my body with it when I first came out of the shower with slightly red water still coming out. Once I blow dried my hair, there were no other stains or color rubbing off onto anything. I slept with an old unwanted t-shirt covering my pillow case just as an extra precaution but there were no more stains. If you generally want a more lighter red on your hair, I recommend getting a different box due, or applying this color to naturally light colored hair, or hair previously colored to a lighter tone. My hair is very dark brown, basically black, and although I ended up liking the subtle look, if you are looking for bold colors to apply on Dark/Black Hair, I think this box dye might not be the best choice to provide such results. Again, I love the results, but the Noir part of this Ruby color, couldn't provide the rich red pigment onto my black hair. I wish you the best of luck!

accessories - the box only has gloves and they rip easily; I stained my left thumbsmell - there is a slight chemical smell that did not bother me, but if you are very sensitive to smell - you might not like itquantity - I felt that there was plenty of material to cover my hair and even a little too much. I have medium shoulder length, full head of hair, and I had no problem covering everythinginstructions - very easy to follow, all tubes are numbered according to order in which you use themstaining - it stained the skin all over. but as the instructions say - they all come right off with a basic tonic or lotionrinse - this is the weird part; there was TOO MUCH washing out to be done; the water was copper red (I used Rich Caviar color). The water splashes stained the shower stall too, but since I noticed them - I cleaned them right awayhair quality - the hair looks great; feels very full volume; color is deep and uniformallergy - I had no irritation at all; I kept the hair color on for 40 minutes; no allergy 24 hours latercolor - I have dark brown hair with grown out highlights (copper color at this point); this hair color covered everything very uniform and same shade - from roots to tipsOverall, good quality hair color. Will have to see how long it lasts.
