Is the base of this salt shaker GLASS?

I bought these shakers because of the side pour spout. They are acrylic, not glass. I have had these a few years now and love them. I wish they were glass, but wouldn’t trade them for any other shakers because I use the side spout so often.

Is it easy/possible to open the pour spout with one hand?

Yes. The spout on the shakers can be easily opened and closed with one hand. This is made possible by a slight curve in the spout that allows the user to press down on the bottom of the spout to open and press down on the top of the spout to close.

I'm interested in using this for a fine ground Celtic sea salt which isn't quite as superfine as Mortons. Will this salt shaker still shake salt?

I don’t think so. The holes are pretty small and think it is intended for a fine table salt rather than a thicker sea salt. I cook with sea salt and even the more finely ground salts would have problems with this shaker.

When you unscrew the top to refill are there loose salt grains in the threads of the shaker?

Just refilled mine for first time and didnt note this
