Q: Approximately what volume of sand is a 10 lbs package?

10lb of Teton Black (TM) 120 is approximately 200 cubic inches, in a moderately rammed (compacted) state. This amount of sand would be fairly close to the volume of a 6"X6"X6" cube.

Q: Does adding water make the metal pop?

Though water and molten metal are a definite no-mix in most cases, the amount of water added to the sand is slight. It shouldn't even really feel wet to the touch. Furthermore, this sand, unlike for example a solid steel plate, is permeable. So any evolved steam that would normally cause the metal to "pop" and be ejected would simply be conducted through the sand. It is very important to read the instructions. Basically, the trick for both safety and performance is to add as little water as you can get away with and still have the mold hold together (and you will definitely have to add water from time to time--all water-bonded greensand works this way).

Q: Is this appropriate for casting tin and aluminium bronze alloys?

Yes--this sand will work well for any type of bronze.
