Very good details on self-defense
Great book, photos were not great but I realize it is a very old book and the photos are what they are from that time period

Excellent book
Excellent book - pictures are hard to see as they are old and in black and white, but that is to be expected. Overall a good addition to anyone's martial art collection.

A great historical manual on the techniques and tactics of W.E. Fairbairn.
Paladin Press is well-known for publishing important historical military close quarter combat manuals. The forward to this interesting book was written by Kelly McCann, who has produced several manuals and dvds on practical combatives. Though some martial artists may criticize the old black and white photographs and may believe the techniques shown are not effective, but that is a mistake. One of the things that is difficult to put into a photograph is intensity. Doing a technique with spirit and aggressive attitude is often what makes it work. This book, which was written by the legendary W.E. Fairbairn, covers a lot of material such as defense against holds, disarming, application of holds, throws, use of the police baton, walking stick and how to fall. The real value of this book is in the historical aspects.Rating: 5 Stars. Joseph J. Truncale (Author: Pro-Systems Combatives Manuals Vol. 1,2).

A fantastic look at the past, in this book you see where most martial arts come from, Krav Maga is nearly an identical copy of Defendu. If you practice this in a life and death situation the person on the receiving end will definately have their day ruined. A really good book of no nonsense old fashioned self defence...........Brilliant

Good basic skillset
The kiss rule is alive and well with this book. For those who want to defend themselves and their loved ones but don't want to spend hours in the dojo this is a great way to start and end. Techniques proven in modern warfare not debated over which style is better/best.

Anything Written By WE Fairbairn Is Worth Reading
Great addition to any close combat library.

Defendu's Revival
This is one of a four books that can be used in the Revival of W.E. Fairbairn's defenfu, just need to read "get tough", "SMP Self Defense", and Rex Applegate's "Kill or be killed."
