Lightweight and works like new (Blazing Prices, 10/2017). Screen quality positional
UPDATE 2 years later: I still use the laptop every day. No lag, No other problems. I still love it. The battery lasts a little less time that it had (but my eyes are 2 years older, and might keep the brightness higher). The Wifi has become glitchy, and I added a $10 USB wifi dongle.---I love this computer. I needed something light, with a 14+ inch screen, with enough power to run Chrome, Office, and connect to a distant server for record keeping. I haven't tried it for any other purpose. I'm writing this review with my own requirements in mind; a gamer would give it a different rating. I think the bottom line is that it always does what I need it to do, and doesn't do a lot of other exciting stuff.Software: I've had no glitches. Runs Windows 10, behaves and updates as Windows 10 does (but that's a separate 2.5 star review for Microsoft). The processor and RAM keep up with my activity. No lags, no crashes, no screens of death. No drama or frustration. What you'd expect from 8GB of RAM and a core i5 processor. It has a full keyboard, including delete and capslock keys. The keyboard is backlit, and feels moderately clicky, but is quiet -- not silent, but won't keep anyone awake. The function keys have alternative uses printed on them. Some work (volume, KB backlight toggle), some don't (screen brightness). The backlight has high/low/off settings. There are a few mouse options. There's a trackpad, with dual buttons below, and another set of dual buttons above, for the little mouse-type button in the center of the keyboard. You can turn any of these on or off. I primarily use the trackpad, and sometimes a wireless mouse. You'll want to turn some off, in fact, because you don't want to be pushing the extra buttons all the time. The trackpad works well, not a lot of skipping around. I tend to tap the pad rather than use the buttons, but the buttons work fine. I haven't used the keyboard button enough to comment on it. The area under the keyboard, where the mouse is, is wide enough for good wrist support while typing.** Actually, I may have had to make a registry edit to get the mouse to do 2 finger scrolling. The fingeprint reader works as it should. The screen - should ding them half a star. The view is positional, and if I'm having a hard time seeing something, I need to remember to change the angle of view. When looking at it straight on, the colors and resolution are fine. Brightness is more than adequate. Note the the specs list screen resolution as 1300x768.Audio volume is adequate and the sound isn't muffled. The laptop charges quickly, and will last a long morning of continuous use on a charge. The battery is removable.PORTS:NO HDMI. It has a Display Port (looks like HDMI but isn't), and there's an adapter available for a few bucks if you have an HDMI monitor. There's a 15 (?) pin monitor connector, as well. The 3 USB ports work. There is an ethernet port, headphone jack, smartcard slot, and a place for a laptop lock (I assume; there's an icon with a lock)NO SD card reader.Wifi - no trouble here. Look at the specs if you have particular requirements. I haven't tried the Bluetooth.I'm so happy to have found a laptop this light, with a 14 inch screen, and good processor, that doesn't give me grief. Four-and-a-half stars.

Ok- doubt it's refurbished, arrived grody.
Good machine, in terms of hardware I'm sure it's fine. Passed HP's built in disk and memory tests. However, it showed up incredibly dirty. I'm not talking like just some fingerprints on the screen, but actual dirt and debris on the keyboard, and was just gross. Had to give it a good scrubbing before I was comfortable using it. This leads me to believe it wasn't refurbished in any way, but rather just thrown in a box and mailed to me. Battery is obviously not new, but it's too early to tell if this will be an issue.

Very good value for the money
I've had this laptop for about three months, now. The laptop was almost as described. Very lightweight. The one I received had a processor (faster) and SSD (larger) which were different from the item listed so I can't honestly comment on speed, etc. The battery is as listed: functional but don't expect any miracles, here. In fact, I'd suggest budgeting a replacement into the cost if long battery life is a requirement. The laptop I received is, as expected, used. Don't have any illusions about that. The box I received contained the laptop and a clumsily folded up power adapter. Nothing suggested either part was new.My biggest complaint about the laptop would be the power jack. There must be at least 1.5" of adapter plug sticking out of the left side of the laptop just begging to get bent/broken. It isn't worth knocking off stars but it is a rather cringe-worthy design to me since this part is usually the first thing to break on every laptop I've owned, and for some of those, multiple times. My second biggest complaint is a non-issue once you realize what is happening. The Windows installation made the laptop almost unusable as it reverted to "Tablet" mode during initial use and the screen image flipped upside down. Have another means (phone, etc) to seek fixes from the internet when you first turn this laptop on, especially if you don't use Windows 10. Also, the keyboard was set to something like Swiss English which made registering Windows impossible due to character mapping. Switching to US English fixed this temporarily. Deleting the incorrect keyboard fixed it permanently.Pros:No "bloatware" was installed on the machine I received.Very serviceable - hard drive swap is simple.LightweightBacklit keyboardNo obvious driver issues with Linux except the fingerprint reader which is unsupportedWith MS Windows, fingerprint reader was my favorite feature. It is an older "corporate" laptop so hardware upgrades are available, some at reasonable pricesCons:Power adapter design"Certified Refurbished" is not "Factory Refurbished" or "Factory Certified", etc. Understand who is doing the "certification" so you know what to expect. No dedicated volume buttons, just a mute button and Fn-Fkey volume controls. Be ready for the inevitable SUPER LOUD website ad.Initial MS Windows installation could have been tailored better for the laptop and avoided frustration. The minimum warranty spec for the battery is, in my opinion, really low battery life. After reading the negative reviews, I consider myself "lucky" due to condition, upgraded specs, moderate battery life. You may not be as lucky.Bottom line: No regrets but I'd hesitate to recommend this to a non-tech friend.

Four Stars
Some exterior scratches but guts work great! However I understand it was re-furbished.

5 STARS!
Extremely happy with this laptop. I needed something fast, reliable and lightweight. This HP model seems to have a lot of great specs for the price. I love the backlit keyboard and fingerprint scanner too. I was a bit sketchy buying a refurbished machine but the seller did an absolute fabulous job looking over this laptop with a fine tooth comb. Even applied a new digital license sticker (that was not yet scratched off) on the bottom of the laptop to activate the Windows software. I've bought refurbished before and this is by far the best experience I've had. Excellent transaction and top notch seller. Thank you!
