I'm not sure if it's defective but it stopped working within the first 2 weeks. I did the troubleshooting and it only worked for 1 hr then stopped working.

The air gets too dry with the furnace running all the time while sleeping. Last winter I got this simple humidifier. The top could be designed better to lift with one hand and fill with the other. I have used distilled water after the first use. It runs much cleaner and better for my sinuses. The mist flow is good on high. The humming it makes at this level is barely noticable a few steps away. The lowest level varies from slight mist to being almost as much as high. I don't use the night light, but think I got another color than what I picked. Once this next winter started I gave it a quick rinse and it has been keeping the static away.
