Product Description Tiffen UVP will help protect your lens Tiffen UV Protection filterFilm, as well as video, often exhibits a greater sensitivity to what is to us invisible, ultraviolet light. This is most often outdoors, especially at high altitudes, where the UV-absorbing atmosphere is thinner; and over long distances, such as marine scenes. It can show up as a bluish colour cast with colour film, or it can cause a low-contrast haze that diminishes details, especially when viewing far-away objects, in either colour or black-and-white. Ultraviolet filters absorb UV light generally without affecting light in the visible region.Using a Tiffen UV Protector on your Digital HD DSLRWhile the UV Protection filter has served its purpose in the film era for many years it will still continue to be one of the most popular choices in accessories today. Digital cameras have blocks, auto correction and digital filters that combat the bluish colour cast therefore making the UV Protection filter a simple protector for your lens to combat dirt, finger prints & that fateful knock or drop.Who are Tiffen?Tiffen has been a leading manufacturer and supplier of photographic filters and lens accessories for the consumer/professional imaging and the motion picture and broadcast television industries for 75 years. Like a glove
I had a Hoya 1B HMC Skylight before, which broke over a pebble and saved my Sigma 30mm f/1.4 (on a Canon 40D house) when I dropped the bag (a Soligor Classic Line, size M) from about 1m / 3.5ft.I decided on this filter mainly for the cost savings compared to a Hoya or Dörr etc, and am very pleased.I'm not a pro photographer, and use this filter mostly indoors (as mentioned above, it sits on the front of a 30mm f/1.4), so UV influx is rarely a problem anyway. That said, I haven't noticed any bad influence at all of this filter on the picture quality I get, and the fit (thread size and cap compatibility) is great and build quality seems all good so I'm a happy sailor.

So far so good
Tiffen is a known and well trusted brand, so I was quite surprised when I read the previous reviews and found that some of them were quite negative.I ordered the 46mm UV filter which arrived well packed. Upon opening the pack I noticed multiple small white specks and lines on the filter and it took a lot of cleaning to get them out. It certainly was not dust as it eventually disappeared, but for a while I thought i was going to have to send it back.Overall it seems to be good value, but do make sure you clean it well with a suitable soft cleaning cloth.

Great Lense Protection
Good fit and great protection. Had this filter in place on my expensive lens at Blackpool Airshow. Had a white salt deposit on it as the sea was rough. Protected my lens from salt spray washed and cleaned without showing any signs of damage. Could not have done this with the lens if I had not had it in place it could have been very expensive replacing the lens

Actually not that good...
I've bought two different brands of filters for my lenses. Tiffen is one of them, and I really liked it. Well... not because it filters UV perfectly, since I don't know exactly how to measure that, but since my priority was to purchase filters that protect my objectives glass, without spoiling the image, this one does the job.It came inside a plastic case, very well packed itself, and inside a bigger box with other products I got from Amazon.co.uk. It had a bit of dust on it (white points, not really dust), more than the other "who-knows-where-it-was-made" filter. I confess I didn't like it, and I blame the filter being above the instructions manual instead of between it and the foam protection (yes, it comes with instructions! I needed them when I first bought a filter on a local store, and I didn't have any... beginners, you know...).The filter fits my Canon 35mm f2 perfectly, though I swear I thought I had broken the objective afterwards: it makes a very loud noise when "auto" focusing, and I hadn't noticed it at the store earlier today. Yes, I've just bought lenses for my camera, hehe... pretty good objective for 1.6x sensor by the way.Again, the noise has nothing to do with the filter, it's a "characteristic" of the Canon 35mm f2. Whatever, filter is GREAT, fits PERFECTLY on my 52mm objective and I recommend it to everybody - just make sure you have that special cloth for cleaning lenses or computer screens to wipe the dust if it comes.I'd recommend the store or the factory to review their products in order to avoid these filters leaving home with the need of a cleaning before use. Do all filters come like that? I have like 4 and I needed to clean 'em all before use...By the way, I'm not sure if it's really made in the USA, but that's what it says on the filter ring and on the box - for those who care about where your things are produced, and balancing the worldwide economy. I really liked the package, and would give it 5 stars if there weren't dust (cleanable) on it.UPDATE: well... it ends up that the filter gets the reflection from my 35mm lenses, and spoils the image. Photos and videos get a kind of lens flare, or should I call it a bright fairy - sometimes the flare stands like a ghost on the image... I ended up taking it off for some of my photos. I didn't have the chance to check if a lens flare protector stops this "effect".
