Q: I bought this scale July 10, 2010 and it brought up a message that said 'error2'; what does that mean? For me, it means it has STOPPED working!

Make sure that the batteries are fully charged up and placed in the compartment correctly according to the positive and negative poles. I never got that message but a battery problem is the only thing I can think of.

Q: Is there some way to have the readout backlit?

Not that I know of...I placed a bending reading light over it. I will say, getting this scale on Amazon was a huge savings! I am a US service member overseas and when i ordered it, the box was stamped with tons of post office stamps. it went from Hamburg, Germany to the shipping warehouse location for this item in the US. Then from this U.S. warehouse to Frankfurt, Germany (where our U.S. mail is routed for U.S. military) and then on to my location in Germany. At the time of my purchase, this scale was $189 U.S. dollars. Amazon had free shipping at the time. I have since then been in a mall in Germany and the exact same scale sells for 260 Euros!!! The lack of a backlight is a minor problem, but I have been very satisfied with the scale. Extremely accurate. I place my luggage on it before I fly somewhere and it has always been 100% accurate on the weight.

Q: how do i zero out the scale

To zero out the scale or erase the previous weight, just press the glass with the ball of one foot a few seconds and it will clear. I hope this answers your question.

Q: how do you change the batteries on this scale?

The seca model 719 scale comes with batteries included (four size AAA). The batteries are regular type that can be purchased at stores when needed. To initially install, and change batteries when needed, flip scale upside down and observe a rectangular access panel door under base; open panel door to see the spaces to install the four size AAA batteries. Please note the polarity markings shown to place the batteries in correct position for polarity.
