Great Game.
I never write reviews, but honestly this game is really great. It does start off a bit slow and, perhaps the only change I would make is for each civilization to start off with one fortress. Otherwise, it seems like everyone makes the same first move: get money and then start a fortress. However, once things get moving the game's strategy REALLY picks up and the character cards: WHAT! Such a good element. They can really make or break someone's turn, which is usually really well thought out (or so you hope). All of that can come crashing down, forcing you to re-think your strategy. Honestly, this is one of the top games I've played and I give a round of applause to the creators for creating a game with so much strategy, thinking and playability. Also, the winner is not always who you think it's going to be, making King Making less of an issue.

Excellent Quality, Okay Game
Arqa's build quality is exceptional. Decent sized game pieces, large cards with good card stock and pleasant artwork. However on first playthrough I was underwhelmed. The gameplay is very predictable with everyone having to make the same basic first moves and the gameplay taking a fair amount of time to actually get interesting. Were it not for the events and quests the first five or six turns of the game would be incredibly tedious and even with the events it still kind of drags. There isn't a whole lot to build when managing your city, just 3 structures. Your peasants can cultivate farms but the merchant is far more profitable and faster, making the farming largely unnecessary and undesirable unless a card gives you bonuses for it. I really wanted to like it. Ancient games are fun especially when they break away from being Rome for the 500th time. But even after just one play it feels predictable and plodding.

Amazing board game, love it so much.
The media could not be loaded. I recently purchased this set, and I couldn’t be happier with it! The inclusion of a rulebook is incredibly helpful and makes it so easy to dive right in. The cards are made of high-quality material, ensuring durability, and the map is absolutely entertaining and well-designed. This set has brought so much fun to our game nights, and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great addition to their collection!

Gameplay far surpassed by aesthetics
The game says it takes 30-60 minutes. That is off by a factor of 8+! There are 30-60 rounds. Each round takes at least 8-10 minutes. The quality of game art and pieces is very high but the gameplay is simplistic. The rules don’t address scenarios that should have come up during game testing. What happens if a crown card requires a player to pay money and he has no money? Can a merchant move past an occupied market? Is a merchant landing at an occupied market required to compete? Do you have to move your peasant in order to cultivate? The directions say to move your peasant to a fortified region in order to cultivate. Does that mean it is one action to move the peasant to any region?

Fantastic!
This game is tons of fun! My wife and I really enjoy it! There is a good mix of different mechanics that all mix together beautifully and play into one another. The varied avenues to victory allow for different playstyles and encourage you to be on your toes and watch what your opponent is working towards. Would highly recommend for anyone who enjoys strategy games!

Great game!
This is a great game! The rules, for the most part, make sense. There are a couple rules that are not clear, but not enough to make the game less enjoyable. I really hope an expansion comes out!

Absolutely loved this game!
The quality of the pieces and the artwork is top-notch. The ancient setting really drew us in, especially with the beautifully detailed main board that highlights historical regions and names. What stood out to us the most is how the various game mechanics work so seamlessly together. There are multiple ways to win, but it’s not as straightforward as it seems because everyone else is plotting their own strategies too. Although the rulebook is quite comprehensive, we found ourselves only needing to refer to it occasionally, thanks to the helpful video tutorial that covered most of the gameplay scenarios. Despite the depth of the strategy involved, the rules are surprisingly easy to grasp, and the game just gets more intriguing with each play through. We’re giving this one a solid 5 out of 5!
