When that day comes I shall futterwacken... vigorously.
When this film was released, and there was all the hoo-ha about it going to dvd within weeks, I was totally underwhelmed in the interest department. I'd read the Alice books, seen films and tv versions, so was pretty sure this film couldn't add anything new.How wrong I was!!I ended up watching this on a plane trip as there was nothing else worth viewing. From the beginning I was mesmerised - by the characters and the colourful 'scenery'. I loved (in fact, I'd like to adopt) The Tweedle Twins (Matt Lucas); Jonny Depp still manages to be gorgeous despite the madness and make-up; Steven Fry as the ubiquitous Cheshire Cat is divine; Alan Rickman's blue caterpillar is lugubriously lovely; Mia Wasikowska is the perfect Alice, and so on. The only slightly jarring note for me was that Helena Bonham Carter seemed to have entirely based her character on 'Queenie' from Blackadder - I feel Helena's a good enough actress to have devised her own characterisation of the the Queen of Hearts, however, she was brilliant nonetheless; and a star studded list of supporting characters gets an A+ from me too, including Anne Hathaway and Crispin Glover.Well, virtually as soon as we landed, I had ordered the blue-ray disc, and I LOVE it. I'm sorry I didn't see it in 3D, but the BD is such good quality that I don't feel I've missed out too much, and the extra features, particularly the 'making-of' is fascinating, answering lots of 'How did they DO that?" questions. If you have managed to stick with me so far, you'll probably have gathered by now that this has instantly become one of my all-time favourite films in the history of the world - ever! I have never been a fantasy film fan, but I'm more than happy to make an exception in this case. My 7 year-old grandaughter,12 year-old grandson, 57 year-old husband, and 77 year-old Mum all absolutely love it too - so a film for any age or gender - and we can't ALL be wrong!!

Enter the World of Alice in Wonderland!
Firstly I just want to say that I saw this movie on it’s original release in imax 3D and I personally thought it was brilliant. For me the special effects in 3D were even better than the 3D effects of Avatar at that time.Alice in Wonderland is a fantasy movie mixed with adventure yet adds action in to it. The movie is directed by Tim Burton. The movie is about a nineteen year-old girl named Alice Kingsley (starring Mia Wasikowska) who while chasing a smartly dressed White Rabbit during what should be her engagement party, falls into a hole and returns to a magical world called Underland, a place where she visited 13 years before. She is told by her Wonderland (her word for Underland) "friends" that she is the only one who can get back the White Queen's throne (starring Anne Hathaway) and who can fight the deadly Jabberwocky (a wild dragon-like creature) who is owned by the White Queens older sister, the worst, unmerciful, scary and abnormal looking Red Queen (starring Helena Bonham Carter). This is only so if she was the RIGHT Alice, something that is debated through a large part of this movie.By the help and support of her Wonderland friends, especially the Mad Hatter (starring Johnny Depp), The Dormouse (starring Barbera Windsor), The Cheshire Cat (starring Stephen Fry), Bayard the Blood Hound (starring Timothy Spall) and The White Rabbit (starring Micheal Sheen) Alice goes on a journey to win back the freedom and justice for the residents of Underland that was taken away from them years ago that she thought might only have been a dream!Other actors such as Alan Rickman as the Caterpillar and Matt Lucas as both Tweedledum and Tweedledee make up the excellent cast for this whimsical movie.Ultimately, the movie has a great visual design ,it's the landscape that makes Alice's newest adventure so wondrous, as technology has finally been able to catch up with Burton's endlessly fertile imagination. The characters are wonderful to watch and have been portrayed extremely well. This is a highly enjoyable movie that I definitely recommend.

Take a trip trip to Wonderland!
Ok I admit it I'm hopelessly hooked on this film. From the first time I saw the trailer for the 3D cinema release I just knew I would love this. When I saw the whole movie I was right, I did love it, as does everyone I know who has seen it. Whilst I know it's not pure Lewis Carroll it is superb entertainment for all the family. The combination of Carrolls imagination & Tim Burtons unique style make for enchanting viewing. Add to that a quality cast & the movie just can't fail. Johnny Depp is amazing as The Mad Hatter & the rest of the cast are all on top form. The visuals are outstanding & the music by Danny Elfman compliments them perfectly. The picture & sound quality of the Blu-Ray are of an extreemly high standard. This movie looks & sounds great. Ok it's not as good as veiwng it in digital 3D at the cinema but its as good as gets on TV. Give yourself & your family a treat & surrender yourselves to the wonderfull escapism of wonderland.

A Wedding Break
Alice, Alice. Alice, which one, and will she wake up from the dream when she pinch’s herself. .The Cheshire cat voiced by Stephen Fry the best. She leaves after being proposed to, to follow a rabbit, which starts her adventure until she returns and faces the reality of her future either to marry under family pressure or walk away.Interesting

Wonderful
I saw this film at the cinema in 3D. The Blu-ray is obviously not the same but is still exceptionally good. But thats not what makes this such a wonderful film.I will watch anything with Johnny Depp in it: and here he is in his element as the Mad Hatter.I will watch anything with Helena Bonham Carter in it: and she is wonderful as the Red Queen.Oh and then there's the voices of: Stephen Fry, Michael Sheen, Alan Rickman, Paul Whitehouse, Timothy Spall .....And the thought of Matt Lucas as both Tweedledum and Tweedledee makes me smile as I write this.
