It's an enjoyable game with enough variation if you get both expansion packs
It's on par with chess but is simpler and easier to learn, and both players have the same advantage because when a movement card is played it will rotate to the opposing player. The only sticking point is some cards have a significant movement advantage, and if a player is smart they will hold onto it to use at the very end to win. But that's random as determined when the cards are dealt. A rule variation would be to give each player an extra card to start with or maybe only one card to start with. I think this game is suitable for everyone aged 7+, especially if you used the rule variation just mentioned to give a helpful advantage to a very young player. I was able to store both expansion packs in the original game box with ease, making it a nice travel size. The cards, playing surface, and pieces are very well made. The game takes 15-30 minutes to play depending on the speed of the players. If you enjoy speed chess and have a timer it could be used for this game also.

Great expansion
This is my favoirite expansion to Onitama: it introduces extra dimension of thinking process every tirn, while seemlessly integrating into the base game

Add's alot to the base game.
Well worth it, but I can't help to think that the fancy box was a bit of overkill for this expansion. My son an I, only play it with the expansion now.

Happy Wish List
I gave this as a Christmas gift to a relative who had put it on his wish list. He seemed delighted!

Great addition but slightly confusing
Onitama is a great stand alone game. This isn't a needed addition, but its fun to add in once in a while. It does complicate the moves a little bit, but its good for variety. I'd say we use it about 1/3 of the time.
