I planted this healthy, strong, and tasty hot weather 'spinach' two months ago. It has not done well in pots, but in the ground it does very well. It does not appear to like competition, but still manages to out grow most plants. I have two 2 foot tall plants (With half inch thick stems) that have provided enough pickings for two large spinach dishes.The seeds are tiny, but germinate well. Don't plant too many! They seem to be loved by many garden critters - after planting this in one spot I had seedlings coming up all over the garden. Also, once amaranth goes to seed you will find it everywhere. If you don't want this, remember to cut the flower heads off before they seed. My first planting self seeded and lasted three years before I needed to buy some seeds again.It does not attract bugs, but it does attract iguana (Although they have many other favorites and usually attack this last.) It requires much less water than cold weather spinach and the mature plants survive dry periods beautifully.It is a bit tougher than baby leaf spinach, but less astringent. It doesn't leave my teeth feeling funny. It matches very well with sweet potato greens baked with some coconut milk and nutmeg, or emmental cheese, cream, and nutmeg.I live near the sea in the tropics. The temperature is usually between 80F and 90F and we get less than 3" of rain most months.

Photo shows AGT Red Callaloo Amaranth approx 3 wks old plants in the Aerogarden; I put 4 seeds in each pod. Its the best grower in my indoor hydroponic gardens, ready for a new trim approx 2-3 wks after a harvest. The leaves are soft & cook up to a pleasant flavor. I know the seeds cost more but you won't be disappointed.

One packet grew me several coffee cans full of seeds. These things grew well over my head at 6ft. Huge golden-orange heads on them. Once they hit about 1ft tall, we never watered or touched them at all.

Amaranth has been growing like crazy!! Will order again!

Love these seeds, bought as a fast growing feed addition for chickens. grown exactly as pictured! Direct sown started sprouting within 2 weeks. 3 months later plant is full of flower and well over 6ft tall. They lean in our raised growbeds but I'm sure will be fine in ground. Definitely buying again.

beautiful plants. just planted a few to see what they would be like. already planning where to put them next year. must have full sun. tried a few in different spots only those with all day sun grew past a few inches. great colorful addition to veggie garden and flower beds.

Packet didn't even have 100 seeds.

arrived promptly. I bet that every seed that I planted sprouted, which made for a great deal of thinning, as I am used to normal seed packets. They sprouted within 5 days.
